A 60-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly
making several hoax calls, including one in which he claimed that he
would blow up the IGI airport in the national capital if JNUSU president
Kanhaiya Kumar is not freed immediately, police said on Tuesday.
The accused, identified as Mohrram Ali, a resident
of Delhi's Brahmpuri area, allegedly made the calls using a SIM card
procured in the name of a relative, whom he wanted to falsely frame. Ali
believed that the relative was the reason behind her daughter's
disturbed married life, a senior official said.
On Friday, he had called up police, saying he will
blow up the departure hall of Terminal 3 at Indira Gandhi International
Airport if Kanhaiya was not released immediately.
It emerged from the investigation that a similar
hoax call was received at New Delhi railway station around two hours ago
on the same day. The accused was then tracked down with the help of SIM
card locator.
"Ali was aware of the JNU row and knew what
sensation it could create. He also told police that he had been to jail
sometime back in connection with a fight with the relative," the senior
official added.
