After a long span of 35 years, Mohun Bagan’s floodlight
was inaugurated on Thursday by State Government Sports Minister, Mr.
Aroop Biswas. On the same day, Mohun Bagan plays their U-19 IFA Shield
match against DSK Liverpool FCI Academy under lights.
Earlier, 35 years ago, Indian Chamber of Commerce inaugurated the
flood lights on occasion of Mohun Bagan vs FC Tatabanya match but the
officials failed to maintain it and those lights became useless. Then
Mohun Bagan officials handed it over to the then State Government. But
the then State Government also did not take any measures to maintain it
too.
The present ruling party took an initiative to light up the floodlights and they did it. Mohun Bagan Secretary, later quoted as saying, “As we have told earlier, The next season’s CFL matches will be played in our home ground under lights.”
All renowned persons like Utpal Ganguly, Subrata Dutta, Chuni Goswami, PK Banerjee were presented in this ceremony.
