Rail Budget 2016: Job Growth Main Aim, Says Prabhu

Railway minister Suresh Prabhu said on Thursday that the core objective of his budget is to make the railways an engine of employment generation and economic growth across India.
"These are challenging times but we are set for a transformational journey for Indian Railways," Prabhu said while presenting the Rail Budget 2106 in the Lok Sabha.
"This is not my budget but this is a budget that reflects the aspirations of families in India," the minister added.
"Dignity of passengers, speed of trains and progress of nation are main themes of this budget," he added.
'Reorganize, Restructure and Rejuvenate' are the three pillars of the Rail Budg , he said.
Here are the highlights of the Rail Budget 2016:
* By 2020, plans to eliminate all unmanned level crossings.
* A savings of Rs 8,720 crore rupees for last year's budget estimates will be effected this year.
Rs. 1.21 lakh crores capital plan in Rail Budget 2016
* Proposal to electrify 2000 km next year and increase electrification budget by 50%.
Bankable railway projects are now assured of funding and should be completed in the next 3-4 years
* Poised to commission 7 km of broad gauge lines in this year against an average of 4.3km
