Bajaj Auto has opened bookings of its
new 150cc commuter bike, the ‘V’. Forged from recycled metal of the
decommissioned INS Vikrant, India’s first aircraft carrier, the V has
been priced at Rs 62,399 (ex-showroom, Hyderabad).
The domestic two-wheeler maker will be
taking orders for the bike till March 20, with deliveries promised by
March 23, the company has said.
The new Bajaj V is powered by a 150cc DTS-i engine, good for making 15Nm of torque at 5,500 rpm.
The company hopes to sell 50,000 units of the Bajaj V in the next 12-18 months.
Bajaj VP Marketing (motorcycle) Sumeet Narang said that the company was
‘open to evaluate’ on whether to extend the ‘V’ brand to other bike
categories, but that would depend on the acceptance level and to which
category of consumers. “The brand will continue,” Narang said when asked
what after the Vikrant metal gets exhausted.
