Kolkata: The Barasat Court was supposed to give its final verdict on the Sourav Chowdhury murder case today. But it has postponed it to April 19,Tuesday.
The Barasat Court declared 9 people accused in the murder of
Sourav Chowdhury as guilty on Friday. 22 year old Sourav Chowdhury was murdered
and found in multiple pieces on a railway track on 5th July 2014 at Bamangachi.
It was claimed that the main reason for the murder of Sourav was his protest
against the anti-social activities in the area. The main accused Shyamal
Karmakar was arrested after a few days of the incident, by the police.
Karmakar , who was accused of arms act has been declared guilty
along with 8 others who were involved with the brutal murder. 13 of them were
put under charge sheet. One is still missing and one has been sent free of
charges.
Shyamal Karmakar has been booked under Section 364 (Kidnapping
or abducting in order to murder), 302(Punishment
for murder), 201(Causing disappearance of evidence of
offence, or giving false information to screen offender), 120B (Punishment of criminal conspiracy), 34(Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common
intention) under the Indian Penal Code(IPC) and also section
25/27(Arms Act) under the IPC. Somnath Sardar, Suman das, Suman Sarkar, Tarok
Das, Amal Barui, Rakesh Barman, Tapash Biswas and Ratan Samaddar has been
booked under the same sections of the IPC. But they have not been charged with
Section 25/27(Arms Act). Poly Maity, Ratan Das and Sisir Mukhopadhyay has been
booked under section 212 (harbouring offender) and section 34 (Acts
done by several persons in furtherance of common intention).
